Life & career coaching

For outgrowing who you should be

Are you living the life you want?

Or feeling stressed, overwhelmed, stuck, inadequate, hooked on the past, or off-track? Everyone’s struggle is different, but we could all use support, care, and cheerleading to find our way sometimes.

Coaching isn’t a panacea, but setting aside time in your schedule to focus on YOU and what you need is a powerful act of self-care that sends a message — to yourself and the universe — that you’re ready for change.

If you’re longing for more peace, connection, meaning, direction, to feel more like yourself, or like you’re in the driver’s seat of your life (instead of along for the ride), I’ve been there — and I want to help.

Testimonials

“From the start of our session, Kate made me feel comfortable and open to new techniques. She patiently walked me through several exercises that elicited information and thoughts that I hadn’t realized I'd been thinking. She also helped me see possibility where I didn’t realize it existed. She had worksheets and activities that I could do myself or with her. I found this particularly helpful to reflect on and put our conversation into action. I had three networking conversations as a direct result of our time together. I was truly blown away!

Kate is smart, thoughtful, empathetic, and an incredible listener. I guarantee you will never feel more heard or empowered to act after spending time with Kate. Enjoy it!”

— Kathleen

— Paula

“Kate has always been someone I can show up to exactly as I am and feel genuinely seen and supported. She has a unique ability to create space for whatever you’re feeling, and helps you find clarity and peace. I always walk away from our conversations feeling more grounded and hopeful. I’m so glad she’s pursuing this work, so that many more people can experience the same steady support she’s brought to my life for over 25 years.”

There's no playbook for the human experience. You have to decide what a meaningful life and career looks like to you and then work hard at prioritizing what matters most, what brings you joy, and what lights you up. The goal is to spend more and more of your time and energy on what YOU care about – not what is expected of you or what you think is possible (or impossible) or what is reasonable or safe.

However, we’re up against a system that benefits when we’re stressed, scared, and exhausted. It’s success depends on our compliance and disconnection from other people, the world around us, our own inner wisdom, creativity, our unruly dreams, and heart’s desires. Living a life that reflects what’s inside you isn’t an easy task. But you don’t have to tackle it alone.

  • Sessions are meant to be a refuge from the busyness and obligations of daily life, offering time and support for whatever is weighing on you. You don’t have to know exactly what you need or where you want to go to benefit from some sacred space for you. Life coaching might help you:

    • Get unstuck

    • Heal old wounds and process difficult emotions

    • Change patterns that have outlived their usefulness

    • Find your path or determine your next step

    • Face your fears or self-doubt

    • Navigate challenging relationships

    • Feel better, more of the time

    • Break free of survival mode, the hamster wheel, or just going through the motions

    • Unleash your intuition and claim your personal power

  • In this time of upheaval, uncertainty, and suffering, one of the best things each of us can do is to nurture our dreams, cultivate more joy, and use our singular gifts to do the work – both inner and outer – the world needs us to do. But stepping into our power takes energy and attention, so we must tend to our bodies, minds, and souls and shield ourselves from productivity culture, burnout from the grind, or chasing achievement and recognition for their own sake.

I help people at every stage of the career journey align with their values and vision, find work that is enlivening rather than depleting, and squeeze all possible meaning, enjoyment, learning, and satisfaction from the quest itself. A holistic approach to career coaching might help if you’re:

    • Embarking on your first job search after school

    • Contemplating a big change

    • Undergoing a major career transition

    • Feeling stuck or restless but unsure of your next move

    • Yearning for more time, balance, or inspiration

    • Navigating self-employment

    • Exploring non-traditional career paths

    • Wanting the job you love to work better for you

    • Dealing with everyday challenges in your role

    • Doubting yourself, your talents, or that there’s a “dream job” or “calling” out there for you

  • Don’t see your situation reflected in the life coaching or career coaching descriptions? Want a combination of both? Or not really sure what your goals are or where to start? That’s ok - let’s talk and see if we’re a fit. I bring my full toolbox to every session and will tailor my approach to your needs.

About me

Hi. I’m Kate Adams. And this is my horse, Fagan. I’m a certified Radical Life Coach in the LaChiara Method. My approach to coaching weaves together three elements:

  1. Practical tools for navigating day-to-day life and work

  2. Science-based somatic techniques and energy work that calm the nervous system and reboot creativity, problem-solving, and intuition

  3. Compassion, care, and a spiritual perspective

Career seeker. Before coaching, I’d concluded after much searching that “life’s work” was something for other people, not me. I now realize that the failures, frustration, and false starts, along with the bright spots in my life, have added up to the unique mix of skills and experience that I bring to my work as a coach.

The last nine years have brought big changes. I worked as an editor and product developer for Harvard Business Review for 12 years, learning a lot about management, organizations, work, and careers. I left publishing unsuccessfully a few times – to get a master’s degree in American Studies, to do admissions marketing at a women’s college – before my big break that went bust.

We relocated from the city to a landscape that inspires me and feels like home. I fell (hard) off the ladder to leadership in publishing. I experimented with new directions, as a pre-school assistant, an organic farm stand cook, a bookseller, a book proposal doctor, and a freelance editor and writer (work I still do). It took the flexibility of self-employment and a life-changing coach to finally prioritize working on and caring for myself – and to find the job I was made for.

In addition to coaching, I also work for CoJourn, an amazing program that helps individuals and organizations build connection and accountability. My own eight-year accountability partnership with a dear friend has been another transformational element of this new chapter of my life.

City-to-country transplant. I feel lucky every day that my partner and I live near the woods in Tunbridge, Vermont. I grew up in Northfield, MA and graduated from Smith College, so moving here from Somerville, MA in 2016 meant a homecoming to the beauty of nature. I also started riding horses again after a 15-year break. Fagan is a Connemara Pony (who isn’t actually a pony). He and our puppy Cookie teach me about being who you are, caretaking, humility, patience, perseverance, forgiveness, fun, and other invaluable life lessons.

The world needs your talent & light.

Plant your dreams and see what grows.
